Other Substances

People use substances for a number of reasons. Their use may be harmful to health and may lead to substance use disorder. This includes the use of illegal substances. It also includes using prescription medicine and over-the-counter (OTC) medicine in a way that is not intended.

When pregnant, substance use can cause harm to your health, and the health of your baby. If you’re using illegal substances to cope, talk with your health care provider or a counsellor about alternatives that will help you but reduce the risk during pregnancy.

Help is available through the AHS Addiction & Mental Health Helpline.
