What is a STI? What should I be tested for?
STIs are sexually transmitted infections that can be passed from one person to another through sexual contact. This can include oral, vaginal, and anal sex, genital touching, and sharing sex toys.
Often these infections don’t have symptoms, so you may not even know you have an STI.
You might be at risk if:
- you’re having sex with multiple partners
- you have a new sexual partner
- your partner(s) have other sexual partners

Regular testing is important. If you’re at higher risk for an STI, it’s a good idea to be tested every 3-6 months.
Talk with your health care provider if you think you may have an STI or HIV or would like to be tested. Testing is also available in Alberta at STI clinics or Sexual and Reproductive Health Clinics.
