I’ve been trying to become pregnant – when do I need to talk with my health care provider?
The information below outlines how long you should keep trying before seeing your health care provider.
Talk with your health care provider about your fertility:
- If you’re under 35 and have had unprotected, well-timed sex (during the most fertile days) for a year and haven’t become pregnant.
- If you’re between 35 and 37 and have had unprotected, well-timed sex for 6 months without becoming pregnant.
- If you’re 38 or over and have had unprotected well-timed sex for less than 6 months without becoming pregnant.
Also talk with your health care provider if either person has any of these health concerns:
- thyroid condition
- have or have had an STI
- endometriosis
- have or have had pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
- polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
- problems with sexual function
- little interest in sex
- well outside a healthy weight range
